About this calculator
The Hinged Wardrobe Calculator estimates the cost of a hinged-door wardrobe for your Indian bedroom. The 2026 India range is ₹1,200–4,500 per sqft of front area. A typical 8 × 7 ft (56 sqft) hinged wardrobe in laminate lands at ₹75k–1.1 lakh — usually 15–25% cheaper than the same storage in a sliding wardrobe.
Hinged wardrobes give you 100% access to internals (sliding always covers half the wardrobe), are 15–25% cheaper for the same storage and far easier to repair when a hinge fails. The trade-off is the swing space — each door needs 18–22 inches of clearance to open fully.
Why homeowners use this calculator
- Per-sqft pricing matching how carpenters and modular brands actually quote.
- Hinge brand (Hettich, Hafele, Indian) priced separately.
- Internal fittings (drawers, hanging, shoe rack) toggled.
- Loft / overhead storage as separate line.
- Free PDF with line items for vendor cross-check.
Features
- Front-area slider.
- Door count (2 / 3 / 4 / 5 panel).
- Material tier picker.
- Internal fittings toggles.
- Premium gated PDF.
How the calculation works
Wardrobe cost = front sqft × ₹/sqft + hinges + internals. For 56 sqft laminate hinged at ₹1,500/sqft = ₹84k + ₹6k hinges + ₹15k internals = ₹1.05 lakh. Acrylic same wardrobe runs ₹1.5–2 lakh; PU pushes ₹2.5–3.5 lakh.
Why this estimate is more accurate
Most hinged quotes are presented as one number without breaking out hinges or internals. Cheap hinges sag in 3 years even on premium shutters. Knowing hinge tier as a separate line lets you upgrade hardware without overpaying on cabinet body.
Material comparison
| Material | ₹ / sqft | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laminate | ₹1,200–1,800 | Cheapest, durable | Visible joinery |
| Membrane | ₹1,500–2,400 | Seamless soft look | Heat damage near windows |
| Acrylic | ₹1,800–2,800 | High-gloss mirror look | Shows fingerprints |
| PU painted | ₹2,800–4,500 | Showroom finish, custom colour | Most expensive, longer lead time |
| Veneer | ₹2,500–4,200 | Real wood look | Needs polish maintenance |
What affects the final cost
- Hinge brand — Hettich/Hafele soft-close ₹250–500 each (×12–20 hinges per wardrobe).
- Door count — more doors = more hinges and panels = higher cost per sqft.
- Internal fittings — pull-out trays, tie racks, drawers add ₹15–45k.
- Loft / overhead — adds 20–30% to total cost; requires 9 ft+ ceiling.
- Mirror panel — full-length mirror inside or outside ₹6–14k.
- LED interior light — sensor-activated ₹4–10k.
