About this calculator

The Furniture Fit Calculator tells you whether a specific furniture piece — sofa, bed, dining table, wardrobe — physically fits in a given room with proper circulation clearance. Use it before buying online or before signing a layout plan.

Indian apartment rooms are tight and most furniture sizing mistakes happen because buyers compare furniture dimensions only — not the circulation space needed around them. The calculator factors in walk-around space, door swing, drawer pull-out and shows what actually fits.

Why homeowners use this calculator

  • Furniture footprint + circulation clearance combined.
  • Door swing and drawer pull-out factored.
  • Multi-piece room layouts (sofa + coffee + accent + console).
  • Online furniture order pre-validation.
  • Free PDF for shop / vendor cross-check.

Features

  • Room L × W input.
  • Furniture piece picker.
  • Door + window positions.
  • Other furniture stacking.
  • Premium gated PDF.

How the calculation works

Room 12×14 ft = 168 sqft. Queen bed (5×6.5) = 32.5 sqft + 3 ft clearance both sides + 2 ft foot. Wardrobe 8 Rft × 24" = 16 sqft + 3 ft front clearance. Bedside tables × 2 = 6 sqft. Remaining: ~50 sqft for circulation — comfortable. Same setup in 11×13 leaves only 25 sqft — tight but workable.

Why this estimate is more accurate

Online furniture returns are 12–18% in India largely because buyers measure the furniture but not the room context. The calculator catches the "won't physically fit" mistake before you order — saving the ₹2–8k return shipping and the 2–3 week delivery wait.

What affects the final cost

  • Door swing clearance — most internal doors need 3 ft swing arc; no furniture inside this arc.
  • Wardrobe vs sliding — hinged needs 3 ft front; sliding only 2 ft.
  • Drawer pull-out — 24" drawer needs 24" front clearance; total 4 ft.
  • Bed side circulation — minimum 28" each side to make the bed comfortably.
  • Sofa-coffee distance — 16–18" minimum, 22" comfortable.
  • Dining chair pull-out — 3 ft per chair side (often missed in tight dining rooms).

City-wise cost variations

Typical Indian apartment master bedroom — what fits:

  • 11×12 ft — queen bed + 8 Rft wardrobe + bedside, no workspace
  • 12×14 ft — queen bed + 10 Rft wardrobe + bedside + small desk
  • 13×15 ft — king bed + 10 Rft wardrobe + bedside + workspace
  • 14×16 ft — king bed + walk-in or 14 Rft wardrobe + sitting area
  • 15×17 ft+ — full layout flexibility, secondary furniture

Frequently asked questions

Queen bed (5×6.5 ft) fits comfortably with 8 Rft wardrobe + bedside tables + small workspace. King bed (6×6.5 ft) fits but reduces wardrobe to 6 Rft or removes workspace.

Minimum 28 inches on each side for comfortable bed-making. 3 ft at the foot for walking past. Less than 24 inches makes the room feel cramped and difficult to clean.

Need minimum 12×15 ft living room — 3-seater (7 ft) + 2-seater (5 ft) in L-arrangement + 3 ft coffee table clearance + TV viewing distance 7 ft. Below 12×15 ft, opt for 3-seater + accent chair instead.

Yes — 5×4 ft table + 3 ft each side for chair pull-out fits. Tight but workable. 6-seater round table (4.5 ft diameter) fits better. 8-seater needs at least 12×11.

Most online returns happen because buyers don't account for: (1) door entry path width, (2) lift dimensions, (3) staircase turn radius, (4) circulation clearance in the room. Always check entry path before ordering big furniture.
