About this calculator

The Flooring Cost Calculator compares every popular flooring option for Indian homes — vitrified tile, ceramic, marble, granite, wooden, SPC, vinyl, laminate, epoxy — on a single per-sqft basis. The 2026 India range is ₹55–650 per sqft installed depending on material.

Flooring is 8–15% of a typical Indian home interior budget but the single decision with the longest lifespan (10–40+ years). Getting this right matters. The calculator gives you material + labour + sub-floor + skirting line items so the real total — not the headline rate — is visible upfront.

Why homeowners use this calculator

  • All 8 flooring types compared on the same sqft basis.
  • Material + labour + sub-floor + skirting split.
  • Lifespan and maintenance load tracked alongside cost.
  • Brand tier picker per category.
  • Free PDF for vendor cross-check.

Features

  • Carpet area input.
  • Flooring type picker (8 options).
  • Brand tier toggle.
  • Existing floor demo flag.
  • Premium gated PDF.

How the calculation works

Cost = area × (material + labour + adhesive/underlay) × 1.07 wastage + skirting (perimeter × ₹65–250/Rft) + demo of old floor (₹35–60/sqft if needed). For 800 sqft vitrified tile at ₹85/sqft + ₹35 labour + ₹15 adhesive = ₹1.15 lakh + ₹15k skirting = ₹1.3 lakh.

Why this estimate is more accurate

Flooring is where vendors play biggest games with headline rates. "₹65 per sqft tiles" hide ₹40/sqft labour, ₹15 adhesive, ₹35 demo, ₹120 skirting. Knowing the realistic all-in number prevents the 30–50% inflation that surfaces when the bill arrives.

What affects the final cost

  • Sub-floor levelling — uneven existing floors need ₹25–55/sqft self-levelling screed.
  • Demolition of old floor — ₹30–55/sqft to remove existing tile.
  • Skirting — matching skirting ₹65–250/Rft of perimeter.
  • Adhesive vs cement — premium adhesive (Ardex/Sika) ₹35–60/sqft additional vs ₹15 cement mix.
  • Pattern complexity — diagonal lay, herringbone, mixed sizes add 15–25% labour.
  • Wastage — 7% for rectangular rooms, 12–15% for L-shape or odd geometry.

City-wise cost variations

Frequently asked questions

Ceramic tile at ₹65–110/sqft all-in for utility areas. Vinyl plank at ₹95–180/sqft for bedrooms. Both beat laminate and SPC on cost but lose on look and feel.

Double-charged vitrified tile (₹180–300/sqft) — durable, scratch-resistant, indifferent to spills, looks like stone. Granite (₹220–380/sqft) is the upgrade if you want natural stone.

Engineered wood (₹350–650/sqft) feels warmer, looks more authentic, lasts 20+ yrs but needs care around water. SPC (₹170–280/sqft) is 100% waterproof, cheaper, click-installs in 1–2 days. SPC wins on price-utility; wood wins on premium feel.

Yes and increasingly common — vitrified in living/dining, engineered wood in bedrooms, anti-skid ceramic in bathrooms. Use 6 mm transition strips at room thresholds (₹350–800 per Rft).

SPC click-install over existing tile — saves ₹30–55/sqft of demo + raises floor only 6–8 mm. Total cost ₹170–250/sqft vs ₹220–350/sqft for full-demo new flooring.
