About this calculator
The False Ceiling Cost Calculator gives you a precise 2026 India estimate for POP, gypsum board, grid and PVC panel ceilings — with optional cove and profile lighting priced as separate line items. Per-sqft rates in 2026 range from ₹55 (POP) to ₹140 (PVC panel), and a typical 2 BHK living + master bedroom ceiling is ₹40,000–1.2 lakh.
False ceiling is the highest-impact, lowest-cost upgrade you can make to an Indian home: it hides wiring, holds the AC drain, adds cove lighting and instantly modernises the space. But quotes vary wildly because the same vendor will price the same ceiling differently depending on whether they include cove, LED strip, profile lighting, primer, and putty.

How the calculation works
We use the per-sqft model that Indian ceiling contractors actually quote with: area × rate, plus cove lighting priced against ~30% of the perimeter (the typical run for a living-room cove), plus optional profile lighting.
2026 per-sqft rates: POP ₹55–90, gypsum board ₹70–130, grid ceiling ₹60–100, PVC panel ₹85–140. Cove lighting with LED strip adds ₹120–200 per Rft of cove run.
Why this estimate is more accurate
Most quotes blur the line between ceiling and lighting. Some contractors price cove at ₹250+ per Rft, which is 30–50% above the realistic 2026 market rate. Separating the line items in your quote is the easiest way to spot inflated pricing.
Material comparison
| Type | ₹ / sq ft | Best for | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| POP | ₹55–90 | Plain ceilings, classic designs | Heavy, cannot be removed easily |
| Gypsum board | ₹70–130 | Curved designs, cove lighting | Damaged by water leaks |
| Grid ceiling | ₹60–100 | Offices, easy access ceilings | Industrial look |
| PVC panel | ₹85–140 | Bathrooms, balconies, kitchens | Limited design flexibility |
What affects the final cost
- Design complexity — multi-level, curved or coffered ceilings cost 30–60% more.
- Cove + LED strip — adds ₹35–80 per Rft of cove length.
- Profile lighting — magnetic / aluminium profile lights add ₹2,500–5,000 per metre.
- Finishing — putty + primer + final emulsion adds ₹35–60 per sq ft.
- Site condition — beams / ducts / piping increase labour by 10–20%.
